Well done to all who took part in the Club Championships on Thursday , we were slightly down on numbers this year due to a lot of children being ill, however the standard was very high with lots of Ippon throws and close fought matches and a few surprises! The attitude and fighting spirit was great to see and we are very proud of you all!
Class 1 saw some great matches with Issac winning all his fights by Ippon and Torin despite being the lightest and youngest proving to be a great prospect for the future !. Tomohiro had a great night winning the u24 kilo section and Lily taking the Gold in the girls category. Louie showed true Judo spirit in difficult circumstances to win the Gold in his category.
In Class 2 the lightweight girls fought with great spirit and skillful throws, with Leah leading the way with three wins. Raffi had some very fast ippons to win the lightweight boys. The mid weight boys resulted in a three way tie between Sam, Bradley and Callum , with equal wins Callum pipped Sam and Bradley to post on a points win making him champion for the fourth year running. Lucy lacking in opponents in the girls group fought with the boys in the u40k kilo having a great day winning all fights by Ippon, and Sasha pulled off some nice techniques to win the heavyweight boys. With most Improved Player awards going to Laurie and Lucy and Player of the Year award presented to Sam.
Class 3 was a light on competitors , in the u42k Ben was outstanding winning all fights within seconds by ippon, Oscar and Joe had an exciting match with Joe coming out on top. Vikki won the Junior girls and Em the Senior girls. Josh displayed some good skills winning the brown belt boys lightweight and Joe the heavyweight category. Vikki and Michael picked up the Most Improved Players , Joe winning boys Player of the Year. Lisa and Em have both had outstanding achievements throughout 2008 and were jointly awarded girls Player of the Year Awards.
